From May 8th to date, 1,013 trees have been planted in Ben En National Park, and 750 large timber trees have been grown in Xuan Lien Nature Reserve in Thanh Hoa province.

This gift is the love and gratefulness from Gaia Nature Conservation Center and more than 232 sponsors of Xuan Lien Nature Reserve and Ben En National Park to Mother Earth.

Ben En National Park and Xuan Lien Nature Reserve are valuable forests of Thanh Hoa province. Established in 1992 from Nhu Xuan afforestation yards, Ben En National Park has to restore forests which were exploited to exhaustion because all the large trees were harvested, and wild animals struggle to survive. Meanwhile, Xuan Lien Nature Reserve, established in 1999 has to restore forests that were formerly residential land of local people.

Tree planting activities in Ben En National Park and Xuan Lien Nature Reserve aim to transform these degraded watershed forests into healthier forests, thereby improving ecological functions of the forests such as: combating climate change, improving soil, preventing erosion and creating a safe home for wildlife.

More than two months after launching and calling for people to "Contribute a tree to create a forest", Ben En National Park has received 1,013 trees, with the contribution from 160 individuals and Xuan Lien Nature Reserve has received 750 trees, with the contribution of 72 groups and individuals.

“This program entitled “Contribute a tree to create a forest” was specially designed by Gaia Nature Conservation Center to not only contribute to the reforestation of watershed forests, but also educate the public on the values and threats of forests in Vietnam. With strong support from individuals and businesses, Gaia is determined to restore more watershed forests throughout the country, in order to create healthy forests for the benefit of the community and the wildlife,” said Ms. Do Thi Thanh Huyen, Founder and Executive Director of Gaia, who has more than 20 years of experience in nature conservation.

On March 21st, more than 4,500 timber trees belonging to 17 species, were also successfully planted by Gaia Nature Conservation Center on an area of 7 hectares in Xuan Lien Nature Reserve.

In the coming time, Gaia Nature Conservation Center will continue to promote the program to recover watershed forests throughout the country, such as: Tram Chim, Ca Mau, Ben En, and Bidoup Nui Ba National Parks, and Dong Nai and Can Gio World Biosphere Reserve./.
