Nearly 3,000 people walk for AO victims

Nearly 3,000 volunteers in Hanoi on August 6th participated in a walk to raise funds for Agent Orange victims and mark the 56th anniversary of the AO Calamity in Vietnam.

The event was organized by the National Charitable Club (NCC), the Vietnam Association of Young Scientists & Engineerers (VAYSE) and the Incom Media Company.

According to Pham Van Toi, NCC President, addressing the consequences left by the war and caring for AO victims are important,both long-term and urgent tasks. “Some 70% of AO victims’ families are living in poverty, 22% of families have 3 or more AO victim members, and 90% of the victims do not have have adequate jobs,” he said.

The journey, starting from the My Dinh National Stadium, going through Le Duc Tho, Ho Tung Mau, Pham Hung and Nguyen Hoang Streets, and finishing at the My Dinh National Stadium, aimed to increase people’s awareness of the AO calamity in Vietnam, and mobilize capital for assisting AO victims in terms of material and spiritual lives.

It also targeted to support the struggle for justice for AO victims, establish an international movement against wars, prevent the production and use of weapons of mass destruction, and protect peace and the human right of living./.
