Nearly VND16 billion to support island soldiers

An art performance “Spring on distant islands” was held for the 8th time on December 17th to raise funds to support beneficiaries’ and island and frame-house soldiers’ and islands’ families, and give scholarships to pupils who are children of poor navy soldiers or poor fishermen.

Over the past three years, the club “For the beloved Spratly and Paracel islands” has mobilised nearly VND22 billion; presented nearly 5,000 scholarships to poor navy soldiers and fishermen’s families, as well as 62 others to disadvantaged students; and built 12 charitable houses.

At the event, Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, expressed her thanks to organizations, individuals and sponsors, especially members of the club, for their affection for Vietnam’s sea and islands. “The practical activities join the Party and State in caring for soldiers and fishermen at sea, contributing to protecting the nation’s sea and islands.

She added she believed that the club would attract more members and give better care to the soldiers who are working at islands, as well as poor navy soldiers’ and fishermen’s families.

During the program, 197 collectives and individuals donated nearly VND16 billion to assist islanders, cadres and soldiers who are protecting the nation’s sea and islands sovereignty./.
