North to South drug ring broken up

The Police Department for investigation of Drug-related Crimes (PC47) under the Ho Chi Minh City Police said that they have just broken a large drug ring and arrested two men.

They are Diep Tuan Anh, born in 1976, residing in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City and Tran Van Nam, born in 1991, from Quang Ninh province and temporarily residing in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City.

The police seized 4.2kg of crystal methamphetamine, 292 tablets of ecstasy, two guns and nearly VND1 billion.

On April 21st, Tuan Anh rented an Uber car to Nam’s apartment in a building in Binh Tan district to buy drugs. About an hour later, he was arrested with a black bag at No.1, An Duong Vuong street.

The police seized 0.5kg of crystal methamphetamine, which he bought from Nam for VND185 million.

The police arrested Nam at his apartment and seized 3.7kg of crystal methamphetamine, 292 tablets of ecstasy and nearly VND1billion. Searching Tuan Anh’s room, the police seized two guns and a small volume of drugs.

Nam confessed that he directly bought the drugs from China and then transported the drugs to Ho Chi Minh City by coach to sell.

Tuan Anh usually bought a large volume of drugs from Nam and then re-sold to retailers in the city.

Tuan Anh has a previous conviction for organizing to illegally use drugs for which he was released from prison in 2013 and a previous conviction of robbery.

The case is under further investigation./.
