In recent years, farmers in Tu Lien village, Tay Ho district, Hanoi, have developed small kumquat trees for decorations at houses during the lunar New Year festival (Tet)
Having spent five years trading small kumquat trees, Mr. Long says his trees are often booked a month before Tet, at prices of VND1.5-VND4 million. Some are sold for up to tens of millions of VND.

The trees are curved into different shapes which are suitable for Tet.

Each tree is a work of art.

It takes some 2-3 years to produce an ornamental tree.

It requires experience to coax the fruits to produce fruit on time, especially during unstable climate conditions.

Kumquat trees are shaped in pottery and porcelain pots made from famous trade villages.

The trees need more care from gardeners; therefore, they are sold at higher prices.

A beautiful tree must have a beautiful shape, green leaves, flowers, green and yellow fruits, and buds.

This year, the kumquat trees are shaped on the back of dogs - the animal of the year 2018.

In Tu Lien village, some 10 families produce these kind of ornamental trees for Tet./.
