The information was announced during a press conference on UN Day of Vesak 2019 in Vietnam organized by the Vietnam Buddhist Shangha (VBS) on October 11th.

According to the VBS, this is the third time the event is held in Vietnam. Earlier, the UN Day of Vesak was successfully organized in Hanoi in 2008 and in the northern province of Ninh Binh in 2014.

With the theme ““Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibility for Sustainable Society”, the UN Day of Vesak 2019 will see the participation of 1,500 leaders of Buddhist organizations; professors, doctors, researchers and scholars of Buddhism, as well as Buddhist followers coming from some 90-100 countries and territories around the world, as well as 10,000 Vietnamese Buddhist followers and people.

Before the official day, there will be the first preparatory meeting, involving over 100 domestic and international delegates from India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, the United States, France, Hungary, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia.

During the two previous successful events, the country’s people, culture and religious life left a deep impression in international friends’ eyes. Being an important foreign affairs event in 2019, the day is expected to contribute to increasing Vietnam’s religion in international integration, and heightening the country’s prestige and responsibility towards the UN./.
