On November 11th, the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Phuoc launched the peak month “For the Poor” in 2019.

In his speech at the event, Deputy Secretary of the Binh Phuoc Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tram said in the 22 years since re-establishment, Binh Phuoc economy has seen gigantic development with average income per capita reaching over VND58 million a year and poverty rate being reduced from 17% to 3.55%.

The success came from the efforts of the whole political system with the exertion of local people and the support of businesses and benefactors.

However, the province still has more than 10 thousand poor and near-poor households, the majority of which are ethnic minorities, with nearly 2,000 poor households which have housing difficulty.

Mr Tram called on all levels, departments, compatriots and soldiers in Binh Phuoc; economic groups, businesses and benefactors to accompany the locality in sustainable poverty reduction and new-style rural area building.

The peak month “For the Poor” takes places from October 17th to November 18th to promote the tradition of kindness and “the leaves protect tattered ones” of the nation. Over the past three years, the Fund for the Poor of Binh Phuoc received more than VND90 billion, built 1,619 houses and supported capital for production and medical examination and treatment.

On this occasion, leaders of the province presented and expressed their gratitude to 29 teams and individuals for positive contributions to the Fund for the Poor in the 2016-2019 period./.
