Over VND7.5 billion supporting women in disadvantaged border regions

Initiated since early March, the program “Going along with border women” has mobilized over VND7.5 billion to assist women in disadvantaged border communes.

The information was announced during a press conference held in Hanoi on June 14th by the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Lasting until 2020, the program aims to promote the strength of women and mobilize communities’ support for women in border and island communes.

So far 14 of 26 border provinces have carried out the program. As a result, 97 border communes have received support worth over VND7.5 billion.

As planned, the program will give support to 14 livelihood models for poor women across 14 communes. Some agencies and localities have mobilized a large amount of assistance. Notably, Tay Ninh province has mobilized over VND2 billion to realize programs on disadvantaged border communes; the Vietnam Women’s Union has presented 90 bookcases of legal books worth VND405 million to 90 communes, and mobilized nearly VND650 million for Xin Cai commune, Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province; and the Ho Chi Minh Women’s Union has assisted Gia Lai and Quang Tri provinces with VND750 million./.
