The central province of Thua Thien - Hue has decided to earmark nearly VND12 billion to buy medical insurance cards to assist those who were affected by the sea environment incident, helping them develop production.

The sea environment incident in April 2016 left direct bad influence on production and lives of over 46,200 people, some 13,000 families in Phong Dien, Quang Dien, Phu Vang, Phu Loc districts and Huong Tra town. The affected fishermen received over VND980 billion in compensation.
Thua Thien - Hue has a coast line of 120 kilometres with five sea gates. It targets to raise the number of offshore fishing vessels from the current 409, among nearly 2,000 vessels, to 600 by 2020.
So far nearly VND182 billion have been used for building or upgrading fishing vessels in realization of the Government’s Decree on fisheries development.
This year, the province is striving to gain 42,000 tons in fisheries productivity, against nearly 35,500 tons in 2017./.
