To bring power supply to nearly 30,000 people on Binh Thuan province’s Phu Quy Islands around the clock, the local power sector is operating 3 wind power turbines and 8 huge diesel engines.

As the island is far from the mainland and it is difficult to directly connect with the national grid, on-site power generation has been carried out.

According to the Binh Thuan provincial Power Company, after years of efforts since 2014, 6,640 families on the island have gained power to use around the clock and pay the power fee like on the mainland. Thanks to the power supply, Phu Quy islanders’ lives are being improved day by day.

Apart from 3 wind power turbines producing 6MW, 8 diesel engines with capacity of 7MW are the main source of power for nearly 30,000 islanders.

On average, a liter of diesel can produce 4kW of power.

As power generation from diesel incurs high prices from fuel, materials, maintenance and repairing of the machines, each year, the local power sector sells power at a loss of tens of billions of VND.

Power workers obey strict safety regulations in a noisy and dangerous working environment.

Positive changes in the lives of Phu Quy islanders are reported thanks to power.
