Prime Minister urges support for people affected by floods

The Prime Minister has directed a focus on supporting the northern province of Hoa Binh and other localities to overcome the consequences of recent floods.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister asked the Hoa Binh provincial People’s Committee to give food relief to residents in areas affected by natural disasters, especially highlands communes in Da Bac district so that they can avoid hunger, cold and disease. It will also be responsible for allocating temporary accommodations and setting up resettlement plans for those whose houses were damaged by floods and landslides.

The Ministry of Transport was requested to work with the Hoa Binh provincial People’s Committee to mobilize forces and facilities to resume traffic and clear up roads leading to isolated communes.

The Ministry of National Defence will be in charge of continuing to search for missing people and working with forces of the Ministry of Public Security to repair houses, clean up the environment and overcome the consequences of the floods, based on the proposals of localities, including Hoa Binh province.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health supports localities with medicine and carries out measures to ensure environmental sanitation and detoxification to prevent diseases.

In addition, the Ministries of Transport, Agriculture and Rural Development, Industry and Trade, and Construction, as well as related agencies, will work together to support localities overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, resume production, and stabilize people’s activities, especially with the traffic, power and agricultural production systems.

The latest statistics show that the historic floods in some northern and north-central regions killed 72 people and left 30 missing.

In Hoa Binh province, as of 16h00 of October 16th, floods had killed 24 people, injured 12 others and left 10 missing, causing losses of VND800 billion./.
