Quang Ninh hands over five otters to Vietnam National Museum of Nature

The Quang Ninh provincial Forest Management Department and authorities in the province handed over five otters to the Vietnam National Museum of Nature on July 5th in Ha Long city.

the five otters have scientific names of Aonyxcinerea and Lutra lutra, which are on the list of endangered categories prioritized for protection under Decree 160 of the Government.

On June 10th, Ngo Duc Chien, born in 1988, from Yen Tho commune, Dong Trieu town, Quang Ninh province, a passenger in a passenger car with license number of 14B-02 083 heading Ha Long - Mong Cai, was discovered to be transporting a box containing two live monkeys and five otters without papers of origin. He was handed over to the Tien Yen district Police and Tien Yen district Forest Management Sub-department to deal with.

The provincial Forest Protection Department handed over the otters to the Vietnam National Museum of Nature to use as specimens for display, scientific research, study and communication to protect wildlife and natural environment./.
