According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first seven months of this year, over 300 offshore fishing voyages received fuel support worth over VND25 billion in realization of the Prime Minister’s Decision 48/QD-TTg on policies encouraging offshore fishing.

From now until the end of this year, an additional 300 offshore fishing voyages will be assisted with fuel, also using over VND25 billion.

In early August, the province adopted loans for shipbuilding for 32 fishermen in realizing Decree 67/ND-CP on some policies boosting fisheries development. Accordingly, 25 high capacity fishing vessels have been built and put into operation, including 17 steel vessels, the rest being wooden and composite vessels.

Additionally, 118 vessel owners have been given loans for upgrading their vessel capacity, while nearly VND7.2 billion is expected to be spent buying vessel insurance and over VND2.6 billion giving vocational training to fishermen.

The Department has reported that the total fisheries output in the seven months of this year reached over 13,600 tons, an increase of some 6% compared to the same period last year. Stable fisheries prices have encouraged fishermen to go offshore fishing. As a result, since the beginning of this year, 16 high capacity vessels have registered for offshore fishing, thus bringing the total number of offshore fishing vessels to nearly 200.

There are currently over 2,300 fishing vessels in the province. So far this year, the province is striving to exploit over 24,000 tons of fisheries, the highest since the maritime environmental incident./.
