Red Journey 2016: Around 24,000 units of blood collected

The largest humanitarian blood donation campaign of the year, known as Red Journey, was carried out across the country throughout July, receiving around 24,000 units of blood, said Mr Nguyen Anh Tri, Head of the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion during a meeting held on July 31st.

According to Mr. Tri, the journey went through 27 provinces and cities, crossing over 3,000 kilometres of roads, during which over 500,000 people received information about humanitarian blood donation and thalassemia, and thousands of people joined blood donation programs.

“The collected blood will ensure a source of blood for medical treatment during summer at localities, and contribute to regulating blood supply across the country,” he said.

Addressing the meeting to review the program, Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), and Head of the PCC Commission for Mass Mobilization, praised Red Journey as a program strengthening humane spirit and sharing among communities, bringing hope and life for millions of patients.

She stressed that many challenges of the country needed the joined hands of society, in which humanitarian blood donation was a shining point among charitable activities./.
