Social security policy reform for sustainable welfare discussed

(CPV) – Communist Party of Vietnam Online Newspaper on July 13th held an online dialogue entitled “Reform on social security policies looks towards sustainable welfare”, in order to disseminate Resolution 28-NQ/TW dated May 23rd of the Party Central Committee (term XII) on social security reform.

Deputy Minister of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs Doan Mau Diep; Deputy Head of the National Assembly Committee on Social Affairs Bui Sy Loi; and Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Social Security Tran Dinh Lieu were guests at the dialogue.

Opening the dialogue, Tran Doan Tien, Communist Party of Vietnam Online Newspaper Editor-in-Chief, said that social security policies have received great attention from the Party and State. “They are considered a driving force and a target for the country’s sustainable development, while reflecting the good nature of socialism,” he said.

Adding that the social security policies and laws have been continuously completed to suit the market economy, making important contribution to boosting social welfare, promoting social equality and progress, and serving the country’s development during its renewal and international integration, he stressed that the dialogue aims to contribute to disseminating the viewpoints, targets and contents of the social security reform among cadres, Party members and people, thus reinforcing people’s trust in the Party guidelines and State policies, and their awareness of social security policies.

Such issues as expanding social security coverage and looking to whole people social security; ensuring financial balance in social security in the long term; adjusting retirement age; and increasing links between social security policies, were among discussion topics.

During the dialogue, the guests answered readers’ questions on outstanding achievements in the implementation of social security policies over the past years; the target of social security policies; and the contents of social security reform, including the building of a multi-layer and expanded social security system./.
