According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the change will be carried out across 12 localities, with some 10,500 hectares of land to be used to plant short-term trees, 3,420 hectares used to plant long-term trees, and over 72,700 hectares used to combine rice production and aquaculture.

Mai Anh Nhin, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said that the change aimed to exploit the land resources in ineffective areas or those lacking water for irrigation.

This will contribute to developing agricultural and fisheries product materials, satisfying the demand of the market; and increase the value of production and farmers’ income.

The province has directed authorized agencies to work with localities to build up plans for the change, in order to take advantage of the infrastructure and irrigation systems for safe, effective and sustainable production.

Investment will continue to complete the irrigation system to serve production, and adapt to climate change and sea level rise.

Additionally, the province will increase research, transfer and application of science and technology in the production area, in order to create a breakthrough in the quality of plants and animals, and produce safe and high quality materials for export products./.
