Tet on Ly Son Island

Tet goods have been transported to the central province of Quang Ngai’s Ly Son Island, helping the islanders welcome the traditional lunar New Year festival.

Flowers are transported to the island from the mainland. Each daisy flowerpot is sold at some VND350,000.

Some families plant flowers on the island. The flower season lasts some 3 months, bringing profit of some VND10 million for an area of 200 square metres. This year, repeated rains have affected the development of flowers.

According to the local authority, in 2016, 80% of garlic planters had a poor crop while fishermen did not gain good productivity and good fisheries prices.

However, the poor and those who live near the poverty line on the island still have a good New Year festival thanks to support from the Government, local authorities and sponsors.

As Tet approaches, islanders make Tet cakes and decorate their houses for the New Year.

Armed forces on the island stand firmly to protect the nation, with the care and encouragement from the Party, State and the mainland.
