Thua Thien-Hue supports offshore fishing

The money benefits 65 ships, mainly in Phu Loc and Phu Vang districts, and is used to buy insurance for ship hulls, equipment and fishing tools.

Over the past time, fishery development policies of Decree No.67 have proved effective. To date, 40 ship owners have received assistance to rebuild their ships with a total capital of over VND280 billion (USD12 million). Of the total, there are four steel-coated vessels with a capacity of over 829CV, and the remaining are wooden ships which have capacities of 400-800CV.

According to the province’s sustainable agricultural development plan from now until 2020, the locality strives for the output of seafood caught in offshore fishing exceeding 70 percent of the total output caught at sea.

Along with dissemination on the decree, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will make proposals to the provincial People’s Committee to allocate the assistance appropriately to better develop the fishery sector, with the priority given to infrastructure projects that serve offshore fishing, and modern shipbuilding projects./.
