The assistance aims to make favourable conditions for poor and poor ethnic minority families to have adequate production and residential land, as well as safe water to stabilise their lives and production, reduce the need for migration, and provide them the means of livelihood for rapid and sustainable development.

Of the capital, over VND98 billion will be spent on providing production and residential land, change of jobs and safe water; VND10 billion on stabilising residences; and some VND181 billion on giving preferential credit loans for the households.

Accordingly, nearly 2,000 families will be assisted with VND15 million each for creating production land; and over 5,700 families will be assisted with VND5 million each for changing their jobs, while they will also have access to preferential loans from the provincial Bank for Social Polices. In addition, 200-400 square metres of residential land will be provided for each of 750 families who do not have adequate residential land. Meanwhile, the province will give assistance worth VND1.5 million to each of over 15,500 families in constructing safe water supply constructions.

Nearly 200 ethnic minority families who are living in areas at risk for landslides will be allocated to safe locations in 2018.

The programs target to help reduce the poverty rate among ethnic minorities by 4% or more per year; give some 38% of the province’s poor families access to residential and production land, as well as safe water support; have over 11% of poor families provided with preferential loans; and over 12% of poor families assisted with changing their jobs./.
