Accordingly, the 6th GEF will be attended by some 1,500 delegates, including ministers of environment and senior officials from 183 member countries, together with leaders of the United Nations, international banks, socio-political organizations and businesses, who will join different meetings, exhibitions and fact-finding tours.

It will also consider and adopt solutions to current global environmental issues; develop and increase cooperative partnership; and allocate resources for environmental projects in the 2018-2022 period. So far nearly 30 countries have committed USD4.1 billion for new environmental projects in this period, in order to better protect the future of the planet and humans’ health.

According to MONRE, being selected the host of the 6th GEF Assembly confirms Vietnam’s active role and prestige in the organization and status as a responsible member of the international community willing to join efforts in protecting nature and the environment, including the implementation of the Paris agreement on climate change and other sustainable development goals.

The 6th GEF is expected to help Vietnam increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation with partners by seeking opportunities for financial and technological support in climate change mitigation, biological diversity, chemical, land and soil degradation and sustainable forest management, while promoting its tourism, culture, scenery and people.

Vietnam has mobilized more than USD457 million to realize 107 environmental projects, contributing to addressing environmental problems in Vietnam in particular and global environmental problems in general./.
