VFF President celebrates Buddha's birthday

On May 7th, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan congratulated the Office II of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh city on the Buddha’s birthday.

During the congratulation meeting, VFF President Nguyen Thien Nhan sent best regards to superior monk Thich Thien Nhon, President of the Central Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the organization’s leaders and monks as well as Buddhist followers across the country.

According to the VFF President, Buddhist in Vietnam both serves its operation and care for people’s lives. “Each step of national development sees important contribution from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, monks and Buddhist followers,” he said.

He added that the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha had participated actively in national movements, including assiting the poor, carrying out payment of gratitude, encouraging people to practice cultural lives, developing education, protecting the environment, and preventing climate change. 

Superior monk Thich Thien Nhon thanked the VFF President for his care to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and followers.

He noted that receiving care from the Party, State and VFF, over the past years, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha have organised Buddha’s birthday celebrations, which brought about important results. “As a VFF member, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has always attached itself with VFF programs, espeically humanitarian program, with the use of average over VND2 trillion each year in assisting the poor.

Earlier, VFF President Nguyen Thien Nhan visited the Householders’ Pure Land Buddhist Association of Vietnam Central Committee to congratulate it on Buddha’s birthday.

He recognised and appreciated the active contribution of the association over the past years, contributing to realising Party and State guidelines and policies as well as VFF action plans.

Notably, the association have carried out programs on giving medical treatment to people, especially the poor. In 2016, it gave medical treatment to over four million, providing them 15.4 million packages of herbal medicine and 9 tons of medicine./.
