The plant was built on an area of 16,809 square metres with a capital of over VND645 billion, including some VND472 billion from the Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization and some VND173 billion as reciprocal capital from Hanoi.

The plant was put into trial use on September 16th, 2016, with all equipment and technology provided and transferred by Japan’s Zosen Hitachi Company. Meanwhile, the Hanoi Urban Environment Company (URENCO) built technical infrastructure and put technological lines into use under the supervision and evaluation of Japanese experts.

Using Japanese advanced technology in industrial waste power generation, the plant is designed with a capacity of treating 75 tons of waste per day, being assessed as a pioneer project in treating industrial waste that is the most modern in Vietnam and the region.

On March 16th, the plant produced around 1.93 MW of electricity for the first time, and successfully generating 1.2 MW of power for the national grid, while the remaining power produced is used for the operation of the plant.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan confirmed that the plant which turns industrial waste into power was a construction typical of the special friendship between Vietnam and Japan, and an important step in environmental protection efforts and the reuse of waste for the purpose of developing Hanoi industry.

The plant will be handed over to URENCO for management and operation in October 2017, according to Vice Chairman Toan.

Counsellor at the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam Yoshito Nakajima said Vietnam should complete some legal frameworks to expand waste power generation models to other localities in Vietnam, adding that Japan was willing to help Vietnam carry out projects on environmental improvement and energy development./.
