2017 Asia Men’s Club Volleyball Championship to play in Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh provinces

(CPV) - From June 28th-July 6th, the 2017 Asia Men’s Club Volleyball Championship will take place in Northern Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces, with the participation of 13 top teams, said the Volleyball Federation of Vietnam (VFV).

 


This is the first time VFV has been allowed to organise the Asian-level competition for strongest teams and clubs, including Canberra Heat from Australia, China Beijing Baic Motor from China, Yan Chai from Hong Kong (China), Sarmayeh Bank from Iran, Al-Bahri from Iraq, Toyota Gosei Trefuerza from Japan, Altay from Kazakhstan, Al-Arabi from Qatar, the teams of Srilanka, Maldives and Taiwan (China), Air Force from Thailand, and the Vietnamese national team.

The tour offers a good opportunity for Vietnam's volleyball team to sharpen their skills ahead of the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia this August.

The teams will compete in a round-robin tournament in four groups, with the top two placed teams from each group advancing to the knock-out round. Hosts Vietnam has been drawn in Group A, alongside Iraq and Sri Lanka.

Sports channel of VTV will live broadcast all matches.

The event has been annually organized since 1999. Its champions will represent Asia in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championships (the 13th edition of the tournament). Central European nation Poland has been confirmed as the host of the Championships, which will be the last event on the FIVB‘s 2017 calendar running December 11th-17th.

The tournament will host the top eight clubs from around the world. The champions of South America, Europe, Asia, Poland, and two league champions from the top ranked FIVB countries as of December 31st, 2016, and two wildcard countries will be competing in the tournament.

The pool portion will be played in two different cities from December 11th-14th. The top two from each pool will then head to another city for the semifinals and finals.

Sarmayeh Bank Tehran of Iran were crowned champions at last year’s tournament in Myanmar, after defeating Qatar’s Al-Arabi with a score of 3-1 in the final clash./.
