Hanoi (women’s) and Ho Chi Minh city (men’s) top the National Weightlifting Championship 2017

(CPV) - The five-day event wrapped up on October 16th at Ho Chi Minh city’s Phu Tho Competition Centre, seeing 137 weightlifters from 23 teams from across the country.

There was no surprise for fans, with the best performances by Hanoi’s women like Vuong Thi Huyen, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai, Nguyen Thi Thuy and Nguyen Thi Van, and the host’s men like Thach Kim Tuan, Hoang Tan Tai, Nguyen Hong Ngoc and Tran Van Hoa.


In the women’s 75kg category, Nguyen Thi Van from Hanoi capital captured three gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and total lift events, with 94kg, 125kg and 215kg, respectively. Finally, Hanoi topped the women’s group with 11 golds.  Meanwhile, there was no rival for famous competitor Tran Van Hoa from Southern hub Ho Chi Minh city in the men’s 94kg category, recording his 11th consecutive championship. Thanks to impressive performances by Thach Kim Tuan (56kg), Hoang Tan Tai (85kg), Nguyen Hong Ngoc (77kg), and Tran Van Hoa, the Ho Chi Minh city delegation won the men’s group with 12 golds.

Some of the nation’s leading weightlifters will be ready for the world championship in the US this late November, as strong competitors from China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea are likely to be absent./.
