Le Quang Liem stops at 2017 FIDE World Chess, earns USD10,000

(CPV) - Vietnamese chess grandmaster Le Quang Liem (Elo 2739) and his Indian rival Vidit Santosh Gujrathi (Elo 2702) on September 7th (Vietnam time) finished with a tie in their second-leg match of the second round of the 2017 FIDE World Chess.

After 47 moves, the 26-year-old player stopped his race with a 0.5-1.5 score. His best ever record was a berth in the fourth round of the 2013 event, and a place in the third round of the 2015 event. He returned home with a USD10,000 prize in cash (pre-tax).

Earlier, his teammate Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son failed right from the first knock-out round, pocketing USD6,000 in cash (pre-tax).

Taking place in Hualing hotel (and Biltmore hotel for the final) in Tbilisi (Georgia), the 2017 FIDE World Chess is a 128-player single-elimination chess tournament, being held from September 3rd-27th./.
