SEA Games 29: Challenge for Vietnam in men’s football

(CPV) - Thailand, defending champion of the SEA Games men's football, drew a place alongside Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Timor-Leste and the Philippines in Group B.


It will be confident of progressing to the semi-finals of the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games semi-finals, after entering Group B at the official draw in Kuala Lumpur capital on July 8th.

The host, hoping to win the gold medal on home soil after last clinching the title in the 2011 SEA Games, will also be confident of advancing to the semi-finals after drawing a spot with 2015 SEA Games silver medalist Myanmar, Singapore, Laos and Brunei in Group A.

The two teams in each Group will enter semi-finals, thus creating a real challenge for Vietnam as playing five matches, while also facing the U22 national squad of the Philippines with a lot of members playing for international clubs.

Games are scheduled to kick off from August 14th.

The women's football competition will be contested in a round-robin format with Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia in the fray.

The men's and women's futsal competitions (round-robin format) will be contested by Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The SEA Games 2017 will take place in Kuala Lumpur from August 14th to August 30th./.
