Vietnam Shooting National Team at 2016 Summer Olympics honored

(CPV) - The Vietnam Shooting Federation on August 23rd hosted a ceremony in Hanoi to celebrate success of the Vietnam Shooting National Team at the 2016 Summer Olympics (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), especially Hoang Xuan Vinh’s miracle performance.

The Vietnamese sports delegation returned home with two medals (one gold, one silver) both from “hero” shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, ranking 48th in the final.

On August 7th, he made history at Rio Olympics as he won the first Olympic gold medal for Vietnam at the men’s 10-meter air pistol event. He scored 202.5 points in the final round, a new Olympics record. Vinh led Felipe Almeida Wu of host Brazil with 202.1 points, and China’s Pang Wei with 180.4 points. Later, the 42-year-old colonel continued winning the silver medal in the Olympics men’s 50 meter pistol event on August 10th. His achievements helped realize the goal set by Vietnamese delegation to win medals in the Olympics.

Speaking at the event, 12th PCC member, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien warmly congratulated the final result of the Vietnam Shooting National Team in general and Hoang Xuan Vinh in particular during their competition in Brazil (the largest country in both South America and Latin America), saying that the nation should create the best conditions for local shooters in the future, thus hoping to see more new records in international arena.

On this occasion, domestic and foreign sponsors presented rewards to athletes, including the Sports Investment Joint Stock Company (VND1 billion for gold medal, and VND800 million for silver), the Republic of Korea’s Synopex Group (USD50,000 for gold medal, and USD50,000 for silver medal), Gallewatch, Vietnam’s official distributor (VND100 million for gold medal, VND70 million for silver), and Dong Luc Sport Joint Stock Company (VND500 million for gold medal, and VND200 million for silver medal).

These bonuses could give a strong impetus to encourage Vietnamese athletes in practicing and playing at the upcoming tours./.
