Vietnam wins two golds at 21st edition of Asian Archery Championships

(CPV) - Nguyen Tien Cuong (30) and Chau Kieu Oanh (21) brought home the first gold medal in the mixed doubles of the compound event (three-stringed bow) at the first stage of the 21st Asian Archery Championships held in the Thai capital of Bangkok from March 2nd - 9th.

In the same category of the 2017 Asian Archery Championships in November in Bangladesh, Chu Duc Anh (27) and Loc Thi Dao (25) ranked fourth position.

The second gold went to female archers Chau Kieu Oanh from Tra Vinh province, Le Phuong Thao (21) from Hai Duong province and Nguyen Thi Nhat Le from Hanoi in the team’s event of compound, as they beat Kazakh rivals with a 29-27 win.

Vietnam ranked 3rd in the medal tally. This year’s tour saw with the participation of 240 athletes from 26 countries and territories, competing in 10 categories. It was a warm-up for the nation to prepare for the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia.

Last year, Loc Thi Dao won a gold in the women’s recurve (one-stringed bow).

The Vietnamese archery team will also compete in the World Archery Cup in Shanghai (China) in April and then practice in the Republic of Korea./.

Organized by the World Archery Asia, Asian Archery Championships has been held biannually, and since 2001 has included both the recurve and compound disciplines. The tournament began in 1980 and it was first hosted in India. Countries such as the Republic of Korea, China, Japan and India compete, with many of the world's leading archers representing them.

The 21st edition will be held in two stages. The first stage held in Bangkok (March 2nd - 9th) whereas the second stage will be held in the Philippines on April 5th - 12th. There are two divisions as far as the championships are concerned- recurve and compound.
