5 ideal destinations in the South for Lunar New Year festival

Dong Thap, Ben Tre, An Giang, Can Tho and Bac Lieu are not only beautiful, but also great spiritual tourist destinations for the Lunar New Year 2019.

Ben Tre

Ben Tre is a green island between the four corners of Mekong River. It’s becomes an attractive destination for those who like to explore green space. Ben Tre has many famous attractions for travelers, such as Tan Quy and Phung islets, Vam Ho bird sanctuary, and orchard tourism.

The special feature of Ben Tre is the vast green orchards where visitors are allowed to pick fresh fruits from the trees and eat as they wish. Cultural and historical destinations such as Dua religion site, Tuyen Linh Pagoda and Dong Khoi village are also well-known tourist attractions in Ben Tre.

Coming to this wonderful land, tourists will have chance to see various tropical fruits growing, thanks to the wonderful weather here.

Cai Mon Orchard Village is considered as the kingdom of bonsai in Vietnam, and the cradle of fruit trees in South Vietnam, with fruit ready for visitors in any season. Located on the bank of the Tien River in Tien Thuy village, Vinh Thanh commune, Cho Lach district, Ben Tre province, Cai Mon’s professional village annually supplies products such as durians, mangosteens, mangoes, longans and varieties of citrus. Therefore,  Cai Mon orchard village has long been a favorite tourist spot for​ travelers who want to discover the mysterious beauty of the biggest water region of Vietnam, the Southern region.

Ben Tre is considered the homeland of the coconut tree. All kind of edible products are made of the flesh and milk of the coconut, like coconut candy with peanuts, cashews inside or mixed with durian fruit, popped rice with coconut candies.

Can Tho

Can Tho is the largest city of the magnificent Mekong Delta in the south of Vietnam. Situated on the banks of the Hau River, it serves as the political and commercial centre of the Mekong. Famous for it's captivating floating markets, beautiful temples and delicious food, Can Tho is a great starting point for discovering the maze of waterways that makes up the Mekong Delta.

Can Tho attracts many tourists for its eco tourism spots, especially Cai Rang float market, My Khanh tourist complex and ancient houses. Ninh Kieu Wharf has tripled the frequency of ferries to serve the increasing number of visitors.

It is said that “not being in Cai Rang floating market means not knowing the land of Tay Do, an old name of Can Tho. Cai Rang floating market, one of the famous floating markets of the Southwest, specializes in selling fruits and agricultural products from throughout the region.

Visitors can see Chua Ong (Ong Pagoda) which is in a fantastic location facing the Can Tho River, set inside the Guangzhou Assembly Hall. It is one of the most interesting religious sites in town. It was originally built in the late 19th century to worship Kuang Kung, a deity symbolizing loyalty, justice, reason, intelligence, honour and courage, among other merits.

As one of the most famous pagodas in Can Tho, Ong Pagoda owns extremely unique architectural characteristics.

Can Tho is home to many examples of the cultural beauty of the South, typical of which is market culture. Going to Can Tho, tourists will be able to comfortably go to market. They can take view Cai Rang floating market or Phong Dien floating market in early morning, visit Can Tho Market in the afternoon or set foot on Tay Do Night Market, one of the most popular Can Tho night markets, when the city lights up. In the area of Cai Khe ward, Ninh Kieu district, Tay Do Night Market has been established for a long time. It now has been restored and attracts both residents and tourists.

Dong Thap

Dong Thap province has numerous sites of interest with diverse tourism products and services, each with its own appeal.

Visiting Dong Thap province, visitors will be fascinated by the beauty of the scenery as well as historical vestiges consisting of Mausoleum of Junior Doctor Nguyen Sinh Sac, Xeo Quyt, Sa Dec Flower Garden, Tram Chim National Park, Go Thap Site, Stork Garden, and Gao Giong Eco-tourism Site. Among them, the Mausoleum of Junior Doctor Nguyen Sinh Sac is one of the most visited sites by both domestic and foreign visitors.

The Mausoleum of Junior Doctor Nguyen Sinh Sac is located within the Cao Lanh City. The mausoleum of Nguyen Sinh Sac, known as father of President Ho Chi Minh, covers an area of 3.6ha and is comprised of two complexes. The first complex includes a tomb and a memorial house. The other complex consists of a fish pond and a house-on-stilts which was modeled after the house of Uncle Ho in Ha Noi.

Speaking of flowers and plants, people will immediately think of Sa Dec village. Over the past hundred years, Sa Dec has been known throughout the country for its ornamental plants and ornamental flowers.

If visitors have the chance to come to Dong Thap, they should see Sa Dec flower village, one of the flower centers of the southern area which is located in Tan Quy Dong. In this peaceful village, visitors will feel a world full of colors and magic scents.

Thap Muoi lotus field is a popular tourist destination in Dong Thap, located in My Hoa commune, Thap Muoi district. The attraction of this resort is that when you come here, you will enjoy the pure, peaceful atmosphere brought by the incense and color of the vast lotus fields.

Dong Sen Thap Muoi Ecological Park is arranged in a simple way, with its natural setting intact. Standing in the middle of lotus land, guests can enjoy the slow pace of life, separated from the modern, busy  world.

An Giang

An Giang is located to the west of the Mekong Delta between the Tien and Hau rivers and shares a 100km border with Cambodia in the northwest. An Giang is part of the Mekong Delta rice basket. It also has corn and aquatic products like basa fish, shrimp and cuttle-fish.

The province is renowned for traditional handicrafts such as Tan Chau silk, Chau Doc fish sauce and other consumer products. There is a long-standing weaving industry of the Cham ethnic group.

Tourists should not miss the chance to visit the Oc-Eo relic site - a famous place known to many people inside the country and overseas. 

It is a vast ancient site of the Funan Kingdom, a powerful nation in Southeast Asia area about two thousand years ago. 

This site lies in the mountainous region of Nui Sap – Ba The in Thoai Son District, 30km from Long Xuyen. 

Other famous sites and attractions include Sam Mountain in Chau Doc, Cam Mountain in Tien Binh, Tuc Dup Hill, grottoes network of Thuy Dai Son, Anh Vu Son, Co To, Bung Binh Thien, Tra Su forest, and many historical vestiges.

Bac Lieu

Bac Lieu is a Mekong Delta province that has the normal tropical attractions and more, including a bird sanctuary, a monument to ostentatious living, Khmer culture, boat trips, popular places of worship, orchards and flower gardens. 

Bac Lieu has more than 5,500 ha of forests, mostly mangroves, and offers boat tours along canals and rivers, swimming in the sea, tours to learn about the diversified culture of different ethnic groups and extraordinary food with local specialities.

Tourists can either visit or stay at the Cong Tu Bac Lieu (Prince of Bac Lieu) House. The facility has been partly converted into a hotel that offers guests the chance to experience the life of the province’s prodigal sons.

The home was built by landlord Tran Trinh Trach in 1919 and designed by a French architect. The two-story estate features long halls, spacious bedrooms and winding staircases.

In 2003, Bac Lieu Tourism Company upgraded the structure into a hotel and cultural tourist site./.
