Can Tho focuses on building national tourism sites

Prominent tourist attractions of Can Tho city like Ninh Kieu Wharf, Cai Rang floating market, Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery, My Khanh tourism village and islets along Hau River will be developed into national tourism sites.

This is part of the policies under the project adjusting the overall scheme for Can Tho city’s tourism development until 2020, with a vision to 2030, in accordance with Decision 1358 approved by the city People’s Committee.

Accordingly, the city will build specific tourism products on the basis of advantages of each district.

Ninh Kieu will develop the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) model with a focus on Ninh Kieu Wharf and Ninh Kieu Hotel.

Phong Dien will target the homestay model in combination with ecological tourism and fruit gardens, with national tourism sites like My Khanh tourism village, Vam Xang fruit garden and Lung Cot Cau tourist area.

Binh Thuy will focus on tourism returning to the roots, with the chosen attractions like Binh Thuy ancient house and Binh Thuy communal house.

Cai Rang will promote river tourism with the focus on exploiting the strength of Cai Rang floating market.

Together with building tourism routes in inner Can Tho, with the good location being the centre of Western provinces, the city now develops routes to Mekong Delta provinces and to international markets by air.

In 2016, Can Tho greeted nearly 5.4 million tourist arrivals, a year-on-year rise of 14%, grossing a revenue of VND1.82 trillion, up 5% over a year earlier, or fulfilling 130% of the year’s plan./.
