This is according to the new Decree 17/2019/ND-CP recently issued by the Government to amend and supplement some articles of Decree 07/2017/ND-CP dated January 25th, 2017.
Accordingly, the 35 countries which are eligible for the program include Austria, Iceland, Belgium, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Qatar, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Croatia, Estonia, Fiji, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Macedonia, Micronesia, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Marshall islands, Solomon islands, San Marino, Cyprus, Switzerland, China (applicable for Hong Kong and Macao passport holders and inapplicable for China’s e-passport holders), Vanuatu, Western Samoa, Serbia and Slovenia.
In addition, the Decree also added border gates allowing foreigners to enter by e-visas. Specifically, three road border gates include Tay Trang in Dien Bien, Na Meo in Thanh Hoa and La Lay in Quang Tri. Two sea border gates include Duong Dong port in Kien Giang and Chan May port in Thua Thien -Hue.
With this, Vietnam now has 16 road border gates and 9 sea border gates allowing foreigners to enter by e-visas
The new decree takes effect within two years, from February 1st, 2019./.
