Foreign tourists to Vietnam continues to grow

Number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in August reached more than 1.32 million, an 11.3% rise from the previous month; bringing the total number in Jan-Aug to 10.4 million, a 22.8% increase from the same period last year, according to General Statistics Office (GSO).

Of this, foreigner arrivals by air increased by 17.3% while those by road and sea soared 62.1% and 1.6%, respectively.

Over the past 8 months, Asia sent the biggest number of tourists to Vietnam, accounting for 77.2% of the total, a year-on-year rise of 27%. Tourists from main markets witnessed growth, including China (28.2%), the Republic of Korea (52.4%), Japan (5.3%), Taiwan – China (14%), Malaysia (13%), Thailand (10.9%), and Singapore (5.4%).

Tourists from Europe were estimated at over 1.4 million, up 9.8% compared to the same period last year. In addition, the country also greeted 636,400 from the Americas, mainly from the United States, up 12.6%; 300,700 from Oceania, up 7.4%; and nearly 28,000 from Africa, up 20.4%.

Tourism turnover reached an estimated VND26.8 trillion, up 17.6 over a year earlier with some localities seeing positive growth being Ba Ria – Vung Tau (24.2%), Ho Chi Minh city (22.4%), Lao Cai (19.3%), Quang Ninh (17.2%) and Hanoi (11.2%)./.
