Ha Long International Harbor receives first cruise ship

Celebrity Millennium is the first cruise ship docking at the international harbor. It started its journey from Hong Kong (China) bringing more than 2,000 tourists and 1,000 crew of various nationalities to Ha Long Bay and other hot spots in Quang Ninh.

The event marked an important milestone and opening breakthrough for the tourism industry in Quang Ninh, and more new spaces for tourism and economic cooperation and development.

From now to the end of 2018, the Ha Long international harbor is expected to receive about 10 more international cruise ships, contributing to growth of foreign tourists to Quang Ninh.

The harbor, called Hon Gai International Harbour, has a total investment of more than VND1 trillion. Of the sum, VND300 billion is from the state budget, while the remainder is sourced from Sun Group.

It has a comprehensive modern design to be able to receive the world’s largest cruise vessels. It can also receive two big vessels with the capacity up to 225,000 GT at the same time, with 6,500 passengers each.

In 2018, Quang Ninh set a target of welcoming more than 12 million tourist arrivals. As of October 2018, the total number of tourists to the northern province is estimated at more than 10.7 million, a year-on-year rise of 25% or 89% of the year’s plan./.
