Of this, foreign arrivals coming by air were more than 670,000, making up 82.4% of the total, while those visiting by sea and road were some 12,300 and 130,000, accounting for 1.5% and 16.1%.
Over the past nine months, the country received over 7.26 million foreign arrivals, a year-on-year rise of 25.7%. This figure included 6.1 million arrivals by air, up 29.7%; 111,000 arrivals by sea, down 13.7%, and over 1.04 million by road, up 10.8%.
Compared to the same period last year, almost all markets sending tourists to Vietnam saw growth, such as Hong Kong-China (79%), China (57.7%), the Republic of Korea (39.9%) and Taiwan-China (15.7%).
China and the Republic of Korea, traditionally the two markets sending the most tourist arrivals to Vietnam, saw 3.1 million tourists visiting the country in the period, equivalent to nearly 43% of the total.
Five Western European countries which were granted visa waiver extensions under the Government’s Resolution 56/NQ-CP dated June 30th, 2016, still maintained two-digit growth rates: Italy (31.1%), Spain (27.9%), the UK (23.1%), Germany (18.6%) and France (13.8%).
So far this year, Russian tourists to the nation have reached nearly 300,000 and ranked 10th among the most rapidly growing tourism markets of Vietnam.
According to GSO, the country provided services to 48.8 million domestic tourists, in which 22.5 million stayed overnight; grossing a turnover of more than VND297 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 20.2%./.
