Over 1.43 million foreigners visit Vietnam in first month of 2018

(CPV) - Vietnam greeted more than 1.43 million foreign tourist arrivals in January 2018, a year-on-year rise of 42%, according to the General Statistics Office.

Compared to December 2017, the arrivals increased 12.1%, in which the number of tourists from Europe, America and Australia increased sharply, due to overseas Vietnamese returning home to welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet) and this time being winter vacation in Europe and America.

This month, tourists from Asia reached more than 1 million, up 53.9% over a year earlier, with growth seen in most major markets such as China (69%), the Republic of Korea (84%), Taiwan-China (22.9%), Malaysia (35.5%), Thailand (11.3%), Singapore (16%), and Cambodia (36.6%).

Tourist arrivals from Europe also soared 22.8% compared to the same month of 2017.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said that in the first month of the year, the sector positively carried out a series of promotion activities to attract tourists in order to welcome 15-17 million international tourists in 2018./.
