Sam Mountain National Tourism Area to become unique tourism centre by 2030

The Government leader has approved a master plan for tourism development in the Sam Mountain National Tourism Area in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang by 2025, with a vision to 2030.

Under the plan, Sam Mountain will meet the criteria of a national tourism area before 2025, and will become a unique tourism centre for spiritual culture in the Mekong Delta region by 2030. Together with Chau Doc and neighbouring tourist attractions, it will be developed into an important destination of the region.

The tourism area plans to greet about six million arrivals by 2025, including 800,000 tourists staying overnight. By 2030, it strives to welcome about seven million arrivals, grossing a revenue of VND6 trillion and creating jobs for nearly 9,000 direct workers. 

It will focus on developing eight main functional areas, including: old urban area to preserve the Chau Doc traditional architecture and culture; public works area with the combination of housing and services; areas of cultural tourist park, entertainment, sport; ecotourism area with tourist services; area of tourist accommodation establishments; ecological tourist resort area; eco-farm integrated resort; and cultural and spiritual tourism area, Sam Mountain Festival.

Sam Mountain attaches special importance to tapping tourists from Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh city, southeastern localities and Central Highlands. In addition, it will focus on attracting foreign tourists from countries in Greater Mekong Delta Sub-region through international border gates of An Giang and neighbouring localities.

The prioritized products will be cultural and spiritual tourism, in which the main purpose is pilgrimage./.
