Southern city greets nearly 2.8 million tourists in six months

(CPV) - The number of foreign tourists to Ho Chi Minh city reached an estimated 2.8 million in the first half of the year, a 14.7% increase over a year earlier and fulfilling 51.5% of the year’s plan, reported the city People’s Committee.

Tourism turnover posted VND53.617 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 12% and fulfilling 47.9% of the year’s plan.

The city’s tourism over the past six months saw better growth than the same period of last year. It organized an array of annual tourism events such as Ao dai festival, the ceremony welcoming the first foreign tourist at the start of the year, Southern land cuisine festival, and Southern fruit festival.

Aiming to fulfil the year’s plan of receiving 5.4 million foreign tourists and earning VND112 trillion, the city’s tourism sector will focus on developing and improving the quality of tourism services and products, especially waterway tourism and street art programs, public art culture performances.

In addition, the city will prioritize developing MICE tourism, with key products and intensified promotion in major markets and potential markets to improve the image of the city’s tourism./.
