Accordingly, the PM asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with the Ministry of Transport and relevant agencies to assess specific mechanisms on land withdraw, compensation and premise clearance, resettlement support of the project to submit to him for consideration and making decision.

Earlier, the Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee petitioned the Government to be allowed to apply a mass of specific mechanisms for the project; especially building the mechanism framework and clearing premises before the project is approved.

At a meeting with the locality in early July, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung asserted that the project must have specific mechanisms.

As reported by the Departments of Dong Nai, if following common procedures, 2021 is the soonest possible time to start the project. This means that putting the airport into operation in 2025, as required by the National Assembly, is impossible.

The project needs around 5,000 hectares of withdrawal land while the airport construction would cover 2,750 hectares. It is located in the six communes of Binh Son, Suoi Trau, Cam Duong, Long An, Long Phuoc, and Bau Can in Long Thanh district.

Once completed, the airport would lie 40 km from Ho Chi Minh city and 30 km from Bien Hoa city./.
