Vietnam, Japan ink cooperation deal on tourism promotion

On March 28th, Japan Tourism Agency, Japan National Tourism Organisation and Vietnam National Administration of Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to intensify two-way tourism exchange between the two countries.

Under the MoU, the two sides will join fairs, exhibitions, seminars and international conferences on tourism in Vietnam or Japan, and share experiences and good examples on tourism promotion and tourism development policies.

On the same day, the JNTO launched its representative office in Vietnam.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the representative office, Mr. Matusyama from JNTO said, with the purpose of attracting more Vietnamese tourists to Japan, the organization will offer attractive tour programs such as flower tours, train tours, cuisine tours and local festival experience tours.

Currently, Japan is a big market for Vietnam tourism, sending more than 740,000 tourists in 2016, a 10.3% rise from the previous year. Vietnamese tourist arrivals to Japan also reached more than 233,000 this year, up 26.1% over a year earlier.

With the cooperation, the two sides will carry out promotion activities and create more tourism products to gain stronger growth in number of tourists.

From 2015, Japan’s tourism managing agencies decided to put Vietnam among the 20 potential markets and offered visa loosening policies for tourists to Japan./.
