Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2018 lures 3,400 runners

Vietnam Mountain Marathon (VMM) 2018 will be held on September 22nd-23rd in Sa Pa, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai with the participation of 3,400 runners from 54 countries and territories, up 40% from last year.

 

Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2018 will be attended by many champions of the world’s biggest races.

The runners will compete to conquer various mountain distances with the longest race of 100 km. Runners doing the 100 km ultra marathon will start at 22h00 on September 21st, running through Vietnam’s tallest mountain peaks.

Meanwhile, on September 22nd, runners of 70 km, 42 km and 21 km marathons will run through rice fields, muddy trails and minority villages.

The finish line of the race is located at Topas Ecolodge, which holds first position in the list of 21 places to stay if you care about the planet, as voted by National Geographic magazine.

VMM, held for the first time in 2013, is one of the biggest jogging races in Asia and a typical event of Southeast Asia.

The first season was attended by a small group of Vietnamese people. By 2018, the number of Vietnamese participants makes up more than 50%. At the 2017 race, runner Tran Duy Quang was the champion of the 100 km event and is the first Vietnamese person conquering the race.

This year, the organizers will spend about USD38,000 supporting local projects of Operation Smile and Newborns Vietnam to improve the lives of newborns./.
