Vietnam welcomes over 6 million foreigners in first half

(CPV) - The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam reached more than 6 million in the first six months of the year, up 30.2% over a year earlier, reported General Statistics Office.

Of this, tourists arriving to the country by air posted 5.2 million, up 33%, while those arriving by sea and road were 170,843 (up 26%) and 823,528 (up 15.8%), respectively.

Specifically, most markets sending tourists to the country saw growth, with China taking the lead with 56.7%, followed by Russia (53.4%), the Republic of Korea (43.9%), Cambodia (35.5%), Hong Kong-China (29.9%), Spain (28.6%), the Philippines (24.3%), Taiwan-China (22.9%), Laos (22.4%), New Zealand (19%) and Australia (10%).

Northeast Asia is still the biggest market of Vietnam’s tourism, as it occupied 58.5% of the total foreigners to the country; including China (over 1.88 million), the Republic of Korea (over 1.06 million), Japan (378,844) and Taiwan-China (297,852).

Meanwhile, Southeast Asia accounted for 12.9%, Europe (15.8%) and America (7%).

The country also served 40.7 million domestic tourists in the six months, in which 19.2 million stayed overnight. Total tourism turnover reached an estimated VND254.7 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 27.1%.

With the achievements in the first half of the year, the country’s tourism sector hopes to greet 11.5 million foreigners in 2017 and provide services for 66 million domestic tourists, grossing a revenue of VND460 trillion./.
