The World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania 2019 was organized on Phu Quoc island, a popular tourist destination off the southern Vietnamese province of Kien Giang, on October 13th. It was attended by 300 tourism businesses.

These awards partly showed the efforts of the tourism industry and relevant ministries and departments in tourism activities. Notably, this is the first time Vietnam’s cuisine was honored by a world-renowned organization like the World Travel Awards.

Mr. Graham Cooke, founder of WTA, said: “Vietnam's tourism industry is making the whole world admire.” Since 2010, the number of international visitors has tripled to 15 million and tourism revenue has reached USD26.75 billion in 2018.

He stressed these awards will be an important step for Vietnam to strongly promote its culture, culinary art and destinations to the world.

This is the third time the event has taken place in Vietnam. It was previously held in the central city of Da Nang in 2016 and Phu Quoc island in 2017.

The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourist and hospitality industries./.
