Great requiem for Vietnamese martyrs held in Myanmar

A great requiem for martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty was organized at Dai Phuoc Pagoda, the first Vietnamese pagoda in Myanmar, on September 10th.

At the ceremony, incense and flowers were offered and candles were lit to commemorate the martyrs.

Speaking at the event, Venerable Thich Thien Ngoc, Head of the pagoda, said it is the first time Dai Phuoc pagoda has held such event, which also confirmed Vietnam’s historic sovereignty over Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagoes.

While Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Luan Thuy Duong affirmed that the ceremony showed the solidarity and the good tradition of the people of Vietnam.

In addition, documents and photos on Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty were displayed on the pagoda grounds.

Began in April 2016, the Dai Phuoc pagoda project is completing its auxiliary facilities. It is now a spiritual location in Yangon for the Vietnamese community in Myanmar, attracting a large number of Vietnamese Buddhist followers and foreigners./.
