On April 26th, a statue named “Vietnam Pieta” was inaugurated at the St. Francis Peace Centre on Juju, Island, the Republic of Korea (RoK).

The event, organised by the Korean-Vietnamese Peace Foundation, drew an audience of more than 100, including religious dignitaries of the RoK.
The Vietnam Pieta depicts a mother holding her baby as if she were lulling the baby to sleep. This is a tribute to those killed in the massacres, especially babies and mothers who protected their children. It carries the message of apology and repentance of the Korean people.
The RoK reportedly sent more than 300,000 troops to Vietnam during the war.
Cast in bronze, the 150kg statue is 70cm wide and 150cm high, resting on a granite base weighing 450kg. It was created by two Korean artists, Kim Seo Kyung and Kim Eun Sung./.
