Son Doong cave, Ban Gioc waterfalls named among Top natural wonders in Asia

Two well-known landscapes of Vietnam, Son Doong cave and Ban Gioc waterfalls, have been listed among the seven stunning natural wonders in Asia by National Geographic.

Son Doong cave

According to the site, Son Doong cave, located within Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the central coastal province of Quang Binh, is one of the world’s largest, with its main cavern big enough to house a Boeing 747 plane. It was discovered by a local people in 1991. Lost again until 2009, the cave is now open to tourism.

Now, Oxalis Company is licensed to guide tourists through the cave, with multi-day expeditions for USD3,000.

Ban Gioc waterfalls

Meanwhile, Ban Gioc waterfalls is located in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang and sits on a border between Vietnam and China. National Geographic said the falls is surrounded by karst rocks and green forest.

“Swimming is prohibited, but you can take small bamboo rafts to the very edge of the falls.”

Other natural wonders named on the list include Gokyo Lakes Trek (Nepal), Chocolate Hills (the Philippines), Mount Kelimutu (Indonesia), Zhangye Danxia Landform (China) and Jigoku Valley (Japan)./.
