He added that since the end of January, agencies and health experts of the two countries had exchanged information and data to deal with the disease situation. The Vietnamese Embassy has also established a regular exchange channel with the US Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Recently, the US Government has announced that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will earmark USD37 million in assistance to help countries in the region, including Vietnam, in dealing with the disease.
In the multilateral aspect, the US side also highly appreciated Vietnam's role as the ASEAN Chair in 2020. It is discussing with Vietnam and other ASEAN country members to promote ASEAN-US cooperation in healthcare and prevention of Covid-19.
Ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc added that the US side is currently considering the possibility of importing some medical materials and equipment from Vietnam to support the prevention of disease in this country.
These are products for which Vietnam has sufficient production capacity to serve both domestic health demand and for export, contributing to the joint efforts of the international community in the prevention of the disease.
Ambassador Ha Kim Ngoc expressed his hope that this would create more opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to access and boost exports to the US market./.
