23 killed due to heavy rains in India

At least 23 people were killed in separate incidents, including lightning strike and wall collapse, triggered by a severe squall in Bihar, India on May 30th.

Eighteen people were killed when lightning struck them, according to Anirudh Kumar, a senior official of the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority, prompting an alert in the region.

Five people lost their lives as a result of wall collapses due to heavy rain, he added.

More than 50 people were killed in June last year during similar lightning strikes in Bihar.

The state government has announced compensation of 400,000 rupees (USD6,000) for each of the affected families./.
