85 countries to compete for next Foreign Language Film Oscar

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced that 85 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language 89th Oscar category.

The Foreign Language Film category is sure to be interesting this year with 85 countries, including first-time entrant Yemen, submitting films for consideration.

The 89th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), will honour the best films of 2016 and will take place on February 26th, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

During the ceremony, AMPAS will present Academy Awards in 24 categories. The ceremony will be televised in the United States by ABC.

The competitive Foreign Language Film category was introduced in 1956 for the 29th Academy Awards./.
