Alexei Yerkhove appointed new Russian Ambassador to Turkey

Mr. Alexei Yerkhove has been appointed as Russia's Ambassador to Turkey.

Alexey Yerkhov was born on October 28th, 1960. Until just recently Yerkhov led the Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Situation Management Centre. In 2009-2015, he was Consul General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul.

"During my six years of service, of course, I had difficult and beautiful times, but these six years were the happiest years of my life," he said.

Yerkhov replaced Andrey Karlov, who was assassinated at an art exhibition in Ankara on December 19th, 2016.

Current relations between Moscow and Ankara are "promising", Alexei Yerkhov told Turkish media.

Yerkhov said the trade volume between Moscow and Ankara had decreased, but economic relationships overall had developed./.
