Bernie Sanders to run in US presidential election

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders announced on September 19th that he will be running for US President in the 2020 election.

"Our campaign is not only about defeating Donald Trump," the 77-year-old Senator said in an email to supporters. "Our campaign is about transforming our country and creating a government based on the principles of economic, social, racial and environmental justice."

He vowed to take on “powerful special interests that dominate our economic and political life,” listing Wall Street, health insurance companies and the military-industrial complex.

"We began the political revolution in the 2016 campaign, and now it's time to move that revolution forward," the independent Senator told Vermont Public Radio in an interview.

Mr. Sanders is the sixth Senator to seek the party’s nomination and is the 12th candidate to announce plans for a White House run. 

Bernard Sanders, has served as the junior US Senator from Vermont since 2007. He was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 1990.

Sanders served in the House until 2006 when he was elected to the US Senate. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2018./.
